What We Do
The UND Advanced Rocketry Club competes in two main high-powered rocketry competitions that encompass both solid and liquid propulsion. Alongside those, we create and assist with many side or personal projects that team members have the opportunity to work on.
IREC
The International Rocketry and Engineering Competition is hosted by ESRA and is the main solid propulsion competition the club competes in. We compete in the 30k COTS category with the goal of successfully designing, building, and launching a payload, avionics sled, and full-scale rocket every year. This competition also includes poster sessions, presentations, team video/photo compeitions, and more opportunities that challenge our team in more ways than just engineering.
CPLC
The Collegiate Propulsive Lander Challenge is the main liquid propulsion competition that the club competes in. The competition challenges teams to build a self-landing liquid-propelled lander. This is a milestone-based competition that encourages teams to collaborate and regularly share research and testing results. There are three main aspects of the CPLC competition: propulsion, vehicle controls, and ground support with students managing and running each one.
Certification Flights
We offer club members the opportunity to earn their High-Powered Rocketry Certifications by mentoring, assisting, and providing launch equipment for their launches.
Research
The club does research in many areas, but most recently in liquid propulsion igniter systems which we presented at an AIAA confrence to get published.
Community Outreach
We attend multiple local community activities including parades, Women in Aviation, and other events to help educate and teach the community about rocketry and STEM.
